B90days Check-In

You are ALL doing a great job! I have been enjoying the comments that you are making.

For those who are up to date.....

YOU ARE HALFWAY THROUGH!!!!!!! YAHOO!

For those who have said they are behind but still reading. Keep reading.
Here is a tip (from little ole me)..

Take your bible with you EVERYWHERE you go!
You never know when you will have a little space of time to just read.
I have read while:
waiting in the doctor's office,
while my kids were having their piano lesson,
when I needed a time out and I hid in the bathroom.

I have heard others say they have read while waiting at a red light.

Any time you have extra time.. read. You will be surprised how often that happens.

How is the reading going?
How does it feel to be halfway through?

What has been the hardest book to read so far?

WHERE IS THE CRAZIEST PLACE YOU HAVE READ YOUR BIBLE SO FAR?

How can I be praying for you!?

Steph~

  1. Hi Steph,
I'm a little behind in my reading as well, but plan to catch up this week. I thought I would get really tired of reading but I'm finding it very intriguing. I think what has stuck out at me a lot this week are all the rules that God is so very specific about. Plus the sacrifices. Not to be gruesome but my mind, for some reason, keeps wandering to the thought of "who cleans all that up?" haha
I'm about half way through Numbers right now. I'm looking forward to finishing it and moving on to the next one.
    Have a lovely week!
Oh, and I think a weekly check-in would be perfect.
    Thanks so much,
    Tamara

  2. Hi Steph. I am doing great. I am on day 28, one day behind, but I am not too worried about it with the 2 day grace periods. Loving this program!

  3. I am super excited to be on-track! For fourteen days in a row I have read per the schedule... staying up past midnight to get it done on two days just to make sure I didn't break momentum. This is truly a work of God. I've got to be one of the most unorganized/non-routine people I know. I have mentioned that though I finished the whole Bible at my last 90-day attempt, it was erratic. God is working in me!

What has been really impressed upon me from the scriptures (stemming from when Moses was repeating all God's laws to the Israelite generation that WOULD be going into the promise land) was the way we are all guilty together. Moses was speaking to the children of those who had been led out of Egypt and yet he kept telling them "you" rebelled in this way and that. And we're to offer sacrifices for sins we aren't aware we committed. And there are laws for how to cleanse whole cities when a murdered body is found outside them. Of course, we all have our issues or our moments when we berate ourselves for our sins and shortcomings... but generally speaking, as a human race, we like to look at ourselves in the context of what we're doing better than others. But reading through God's laws this week I am reminded yet again that I cannot take that priviledge. My hands might not be the ones committing a certain act, but WE are sinful and it is OUR sinful world that allows sinfulness to play out day after day in matters large and small. It just makes me that much more aware of and thankful for God's grace! By His grace working in me I am able to participate in something beautiful and better, and I am saved into perfection.

Thanks always, ladies, for our walk together.

  4. I started the week two days behind but was caught up by mid-week. I fell behind again on Saturday, but got most of my reading done yesterday. I'm only a few chapters behind going into today's reading. Saturday seems to be the hardest day for me to stay on track. Knowing that, maybe I can do something different this week like read first thing Saturday morning to have it behind me.

As I was reading this morning one passage that jumped out at me was where Moses instructs the people to stone anyone that tries to get them to worship false gods. I thought of Paul in the New Testament. Before he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul really thought he was keeping the law, stoning people that were claiming that this man Jesus was the Son of God.

I like this format of checking in weekly.

  5. It's going okay...I seem to get caught up and then get behind again just as quickly...

  6. I am a little behind due to going away for the weekend on a scrapbooking retreat but I hope to catch up some tonight and later this week when kids are at preschool.

  7. Elder Family - re Paul in the New Testament. Once in a Bible study one of my study mates pointed out that, from what is recorded in scriptures, it would seem that Paul actually had a deep devotion, even love, for Yahweh God prior to having his eyes opened to the fact that Jesus is God. It was somewhat mind-boggling to consider. Thanks for pointing out additional evidence. Though it's scary to consider, it's important to realize that even when we think we have good motivations, we can still go terribly wrong.

  8. Oh, and to answer the question, weekly check-ins work fine for me.

  9. Hi! Are we checking in today? I hope you're all keeping at it, even if you're not in-step with the official schedule. Such a blessing even in our imperfection: God is working! This last week I think I've found myself simply growing in awe of God's mercy: these people just keep on and on in their ways! And God is soooo powerful and could literally smite them out of his worries. But He is so good and so loving. Growing in the fear of the Lord here.

  10. I get caught up and then fall behind again. Currently I'm a day behind and am struggling with not being motivated to get at it today. My kids have bad colds and we're all feeling kind of blah.

  11. Still keeping with it. I'm a bit behind but no more than I was last week. I'm trying to read at least one days worth everyday, and if I get more, great. But I realize we still have lots of days left so I'm not stressing out trying to catch up as fast as I can. I am enjoying the reading so far!

  12. Another week down. Still plugging along. I haven't caught up but I haven't fallen further behind either. And tomorrow's a freebie day, right? One third done tomorrow if you are up to date!

This is about the time when I quit the last last time I attempted B90d but I'm hoping to continue it this time and not get discouraged. God can tell us so much even with such a quick reading of the scripture.

  13. OH, and how many of us are still participating?

  14. "Sawlibrarian", I'm still with you. There were at least two othes still in it last week.

I fell off two days this weekend and haven't made it up yet. I'm hoping to read an extra day tonight and then maybe collect the other up by getting in an extra chapter or two each day. I'm still so pleased at my consistency so far... PRAISE GOD! So not me - it's HIM!

As I've been reading this last week I've found my mind getting caught up in the rhythm of all these kings waivering between obedience, partial obedience, and disobedience. If my entire life was summed up into a statement of she "did what was right in the eyes of the Lord", would there be a "however..."? Another thing that has stuck with me is the occasions when the Lord told a king their sin would be punished by their losing the kingdom... but then he specified that the kingdom would be lost during the reign of their offspring. It really brings home the reality that my choices have consequences beyond my own lifeline. Am I excusing away any "little" things which my children will have to reap one day?

  15. I'm still reading, but have fallen five days behind. I'm going to try to do a little extra reading each day this week and try to catch up some.

  16. I'm here! I had fallen two days behind last week, made up half-a-day throughout this week, and then lost that half-a-day this weekend. Oh well. I am LOVING this journey. I'm seeing such fruit of the Spirit... a new self-control in certain areas. God is good!

  17. I didn't check in Monday, forgot, But I am still reading! I am on day 52 today, in Isaiah. I love Isaiah 43! The very first verse encourages me. We are not only created by Him, but called out, redeemed and loved.

  18. I am SO PROUD of all of you who are reading! It can be tough at times, but know it is so rewarding, too.
    Keep it up!!

  19. Hi anyone... :) I'm checking in. Let me know if you're reading with me still. I missed a day this week... it was late and I just kinda blew it off. :( So I'm currently three days behind. But the blessing in that is that I realized the recent positive influence of my husband. He's been in a spiritual growth-spurt of sorts and has been real good at doing his Bible-in-a-year reading and his daily Bible study... and when he sits to do his, I do mine. With his example I am being spurred onward. This is a blessed change in our home... one I've prayed long for. Keep praying for your husbands, wives!

  21. I'm way behind, but with Lent starting today, I'm hoping to get back on track. Thanks for the encouragement, Laurie!

  22. See you here next Monday, sawlibrarian. :) How lovely that our groom calls us away for such seasons, right?

  23. I am still reading! I seem to be struggling more the past week or so than I did in the beginning. But I am pressing on!

  24. Hi Steph, thanks so much for the inspiring message today. I must admit I have yet been able to catch up. However, I am reading every day. I truly look forward to the time I get to just sit with my bible and read. I think the craziest place I have read my bible is in my living room. Yes, I know, not that crazy but my dogs are huge distractions to me because I love to cuddle and play with them. So being able to sit in my living room and just be able to focus on reading is a huge success for me. Normally I hide away in my bedroom. =)
Thanks again so much for the great message today!

  25. I'm still reading, but I'm currently six days behind. I catch up a bit and then I fall behind again. I'm really enjoying the reading though.

  26. I've gotten a bit off track knowing where I am versus where I am supposed to be. Can you provide the link to the reading schedule again? I think I am 3 or 3-1/2 days behind right now... but maybe more or less.

  27. Laurie--
I think today should be Day 50. I'm currently four days behind, but that's better than last time I checked in. I was six days behind then.

Here's a link to a printable bookmark that shows the reading schedule:

  28. Thanks EF. I haven't read today... I'll go check the schedule to see how far I've fallen behind recently (I probably read a half day each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... on top of the 3 days I was behind already). To be honest, the wind is not in my sails right now so I'd appreciate prayers and any encouraging thoughts anyone could send my way. As wonderful as the first half has been, and as powerfully as I've been feeling God's Spirit working anew in me, I DON'T WANT TO FALL OFF! But right now the idea of an entire month and a half in front of me seems daunting.

Enough whining! I'm seeing the Spirit of self-control in myself! My housework is more on track, I've been more gentle with my kids, and I've been managing food choices better. I am seeing the Spirit of gentleness in my conversations with unbelieving family and friends when I am trying to let my light shine before them. My husband is more on fire than I've ever seen Him before! Not trying to say that this is some put-in-your-dues kinda experiment but marinating in the Word like this allows my heart and my mind to declutter from much of what hampers God's work in my life.

  29. Just checked: I'm on track with day 44 at the moment, but only about 10 Psalms away from day 45.
